We currently own two producing gold mines: the Syama Gold Mine in Mali and the Mako Gold Mine in Senegal.

Syama is a robust, long-life asset comprising a underground mine and associated sulphide processing circuit, along with satellite open pit operations which provide ore feed to a separate oxide processing circuit.

Mako is a high quality, open pit gold mine which we have owned and operated since 2019.

We are also active in exploration with drilling campaigns underway across our African tenements with a focus on Mali, Senegal and Guinea.

Job Details

The Underground Mining Superintendent will provide leadership and operational direction to the area work teams, ensuring resources, capacity and capability are aligned to the work plans. Responsibility for performance reporting and documentation; identify, report on and recommend corrections of variance to plan/process; drive and monitor continuous improvement focused on safety, value and cost reduction. Responsibility for sustaining value and developing the competencies of the national workforce.

Provide safe, efficient, and cost-effective operational control of Underground Mining Operations team in accordance with legal requirements and company objectives.

Working 80% of the time in the section space, with a time horizon of one week to three months.

Number of direct reports: 3

Number of indirect reports: 6

Working relationships: Safety, Mine Operations, Mine Engineering, Mine Planning, Geotech, Survey, Maintenance, Geology, Health, site contractors.

Formal Qualifications

    • Hold a certificate in Mining – Cert IV or other, advantageous
    • Hold / previously held a supervisor / shift boss certificate of competency

Experience, Skills and Knowledge

    • UG operator experience in development and production roles (15+ years)
    • Experience in multiple underground mining methods (required)
    • Previous experience as UG Mine Foreman or UG Mine Superintendent (required)
    • Relevant UG mining experience in blasting – development and production (required)
    • Relevant UG mining experience in loading and trucking (required)
    • Experience operating a production drill or development drill (Airleg or Jumbo – preferred)
    • Experience in mine services, ground support and capital infrastructure development
    • Previous experience in accident and incident investigation (essential)
    • French-speaking would be advantageous but not essential
    • Strong supervisory and organizational skills with high safety standards (required)
    • Experience in coaching and mentoring and developing mining teams (required)
    • Experience with high production rate environments +2Mtpa UG mines (required)
    • International mining experience in developing countries (preferred)
    • Demonstrated development of national workforces (preferred)
    • UG mining contractor experience (preferred)
